Can I buy a turntable LP record player that uses a laser instead of a needle and manual arm?

Wired magazine had a short article on this device, so it does exist. Five years ago, it was not for sale. They wanted $15,000. Do any stores or catalogues sell it now?

It would still be a lot of money. With a CD the music is stored in the format of burnt section, not burnt section, burnt section etc. The laser picks this up and will encode it as a series of 0's and 1's. This then decoded and reprodcued as audio (Music). A LP player uses a stylus instead of a laser which tracks a modulated groove in the record and reproduces. You can see that they are similar however different. I have never heard of using a laser on an LP however if the conditions inside were correct and there was still a modulated groove, I don't see why not. It would have to be this reason that it would be expensive.
