Multiple (3) Lavaliere mic's on a consumer camcorder - what's the best way?
Want to mic up 3 people with Lapel microphones (wired is fine) to provide audio to a consumer camcorder.
What's the best way to go about this? Want good quality preferably somewhat budget minded... 3 wired mic's and a mixer of some sort? What equipment recommendations do people have as the best way to do this?? I'm new to it and a bit lost.
Have yet to purchase camcorder, thinking a Sony HDR-SR11 or Canon Vixia HF11 or something..

If the people and the camcorder do not have to be mobile, then the easiest way would be to use wired lavs that use Xlr Connectors and balanced cable - or wireless lavs with base stations that use Xlr Connectors (and balanced cables) connected to a small mixer plugged into the camcorder.
The juicedLink CX431 and CX471 would be best in case you use mics that like phantom power. These each have 4 XLR inputs. I use the 2 channel CX231 and it is a great unit (I rarely use my BeachTek DXA-6 anymore).
I like using wireless lavs because they are less hassle for the talent. You want full diversity, UHF (VHF is "acceptable" but prone to picking up RF interference the UHF stuff does not). Generally, the "full diversity" hint is that the base station has two antennas. The Shure PGX14-93 are good units. I cannot recommend Nady, Samson or pretty much anything else under ~$300... Sennheiser makes great wireless gear, too - but even more $ than the Shure stuff. Don't even bother with anything less than VHF. The cheap ones in 2.4 & 5.4 GHz and even 900 MHz are sharing that spectrum with garage door openers, Wifi (802.11 a/b/g/n), cordless phones and lots of other stuff - or, if you go this route, plan on interference (so lots of re-takes).
This would all be a LOT cheaper if you maxed at 2 lavs rather than 3... but oh well...
And personally, I would skip the hard drvie camcorder and either match the video quality with the flash memory HF11 or get better video quality with Canon HV20/HV30/HV40 or Sony HDR-HC9 miniDV tape based camcorders.
Be advised that with the push to use "white space" for certain communications equipment, the wireless mic folks are a bit upset with the way things seem to be going for people who already own wireless mics...
